Where is the Tuck Behavioral Research Lab located?
The Tuck Behavioral Research Lab (Gillette Group Dynamics Laboratory) is located on the lower level of the Murdough Center, room A07. For additional details, click Directions to the Lab.
-
How do I sign up to participate in a research study?
- Go to http://tuck.sona-systems.com.
- From there, click the "Request an account here" link on the left side of the page, and fill out the requested information on the following page.
To participate in a research study, you will first need to create an account in Sona Systems. To create an account:
Your login information will be sent to your Dartmouth email address or an alternate email address of your choosing if you prefer to receive your notifications elsewhere. This email will contain your username and password (you may change the password later). The email will also contain your "identity code" which is a unique number used for data tracking purposes (your name will not be associated with any survey responses you provide in research studies). If you do not see a message in your inbox a few minutes after requesting an account, check your email account's junk or spam folder.
-
Is there a limit to the number of studies I can sign up for?
There is no limit to the number of studies you may sign up for. However, you may only participate in a particular study once.
Some studies might have prerequisites, but any email notifications you receive about newly-posted studies will be ones in which you are eligible to participate.

I just signed up for a study. What happens next?
Shortly after you sign up for a study, an email confirming your appointment will be sent from "Tuck Behavioral Lab" (tuck-admin@sona-systems.net). If you do not see an email from this address, check your junk or spam folder. Also, please note that if you provided an alternate email address when creating your research participant account, your study appointment confirmation email will be sent to that address.
-
How long are the lab sessions? / If I finish the study early, can I leave the lab?
Although times may vary, typically lab sessions will be for 30 to 60 minutes. The expected duration of each study is noted on the study description page in Sona Systems as well as in the list of available appointments when you sign up. You should expect the study to last for the duration of the appointment window.
-
When/how much will I be paid for my participation?
Payment for lab studies will be distributed at the end of the study session. Before you leave the lab, the research assistant running the session will ask you to fill out a short form that will be used as a record of your compensation for study participation. Study payment for lab studies typically ranges from $7 to $15 (cash), based on the length of the study session. Online studies will typically pay $2 to $5 and will be paid through PayPal.

I forgot my Sona user ID/password. What should I do?
To retrieve your password, go to tuck.sona-systems.com. On the left side of the screen, you will see "Lost your password?" Click the "Click here to retrieve it!" link to obtain your password. The system will email it to you at your Dartmouth email address or the alternate email address you may have chosen to have your research study notifications emailed to.
-
What do I need to bring with me to the lab?
You should have your research participant "identity code" with you. This code is included in the email you receive confirming your study appointment. You can also look it up by logging on to your research participant account.
-
I signed up for a study but can no longer attend. What should I do?
If you can no longer attend a scheduled study session, you must log on to your research participant account and click on "My Schedule and Credits". Click the cancel button next to the relevant study appointment. Please note that you must cancel at least 2 hours before your scheduled appointment. Otherwise, you will not be able to cancel the appointment and you will be marked as a no-show if you do not attend. You are encouraged to reschedule your appointment for another timeslot if one is available.
Also, please note that excessive no-shows may result in deactivation of your research participant account, preventing you from participating in future research studies.
-
I need to reschedule my study session. What should I do?
Log on to your research participant account and click on "My Schedule and Credits". You will first need to cancel your scheduled session (see previous question on appointment cancelation) and then look for an alternate available timeslot for that study. Please note that appointments must be canceled at least 2 hours in advance of your scheduled session. Otherwise, you will be marked as a no-show if you do not attend.
