Why Tuck? (by Mariana)
Coming to Business School was a big step. I knew I had to make a well informed decision and I did an extensive research on the curriculum, culture and faculty of many schools. Tuck appealed to me because of its strong core curriculum and top-notch faculty. After I connected with students in different schools, I was really impressed by how much more passionate Tuckies were about their school.
Now, Tuck has far exceeded my expectations. The team work is emphasized since the first day of class. You are assigned to a study group, which is well designed so that you get the most out of other students’ experiences and you also contribute more than you would imagine with your own. Besides all that, the small town of Hanover is absolutely charming, the staff is extremely friendly and playing Ice Hockey is the coolest thing!
Life in Hanover (by Mariana)
Hanover is a charming place. Surrounded by woods, this New England town has outdoors activities for everyone – from tracking to rope swing. In town, when walking on Main Street you will find very authentic bars and stores that always make you feel at home when you get in. To relax or study, just sit on the “green” or in the library to read a book, or maybe you prefer to go to the gym and enjoy the indoor swimming pool.

If you want to do some “American” shopping, you can find the famous mega stores in a less than 10 min drive from the school. On the weekends, going to a big city is also easy: Boston is a 2 hour drive, Montreal is 3 hours drive and New York is around 5 hours.
Night life in Hanover (by Leonardo)
Although Hanover is not a big city, the Upper Valley area, in which we are located, offers Tuck students a lot of great options: all kinds of restaurants and bars. Moreover, the Tuck community makes a tremendous effort to organize daily events. The Social Chairs, usually 1st year students, are responsible for setting up a week schedule of parties and night events, usually at Tuck, Hanover bars or 2nd year students’ houses. In other words, we have options for our night life almost every day and for all styles. This is surely a differential for Tuck, as it enables Tuck students to meet frequently and establish solid relationships.
The parties always have a theme, such as the International Party and Vegas in Tuck, and are extremely fun and full of excitement. Usually, some people dress hilarious costumes, making the parties even better. So far, I’ve been partying in Hanover more than I expected. The agenda of parties until the end of year is already full and I’m very excited about them.
Sports (by Tiago)
Tuck is the place to be for those who are passionate about sports. During the summer, Hanover’s terrific landscapes provide excellent places to practice outdoor sports, such as soccer, hiking, running and mountain biking. The gym, a five minute’ walk from the dorm, is always an option for basketball, squash and swimming, among many other indoor sports.
In the winter, the soccer club participates in a local indoor soccer league, playing once a week against teams from the Upper Valley. However, winter in Hanover is all about Skiing and Hockey. Only 30 minutes from the school, the Dartmouth Skiway is an excellent option for a quick ski practice during weekday afternoons. During the weekends, students hit the slopes of other mountains not so far from the school, such as Killington, Okemo and Sugarbush.
The must-do winter experience for international students at Tuck is to participate in the Tripod Hockey tournament. The competition, organized by students, encourages everybody to play hockey or, at least, to try it. At the beginning of the season, some people don’t even know how to skate and need a third support (that’s why tri-pod). From the intense training during the first weeks of the fall, to a regular season and the playoffs, the students challenge themselves in this exciting sport and even become good skaters.
Housing off Campus (by Karina)
Living off the Campus is a privilege for couples and families that come to Tuck. Tuck offers a special condominium with several townhouse-style apartments called Sachem Village. The Village is located in West Lebanon, New Hampshire approximately 1 and 1/2 miles from campus. Unusual for an MBA housing, Sachem provides students a good-size house with a dining room,
a living room, an American kitchen (already equipped with furniture, refrigerator, stove and dishwasher) and up to three bedrooms. The Village also offers a Community Center, with study rooms, kitchen, laundry, kids’ playground and a lounge for some events and parties. The best part of living in Sachem is that most of the international families live here, allowing a cultural exchange and a very friendly environment that enhances the collaborative experience at Tuck.
Housing on campus (by Mariana)
Living on campus is very comfortable for singles. Not only you can walk to class and to most of the parties, but you are also going to have your closest friends as your neighbors. The infra-structure is great: you will always feel like you are in a hotel, everything is taken care of for you. In your building you will have study rooms, party lounges, laundry facilities, a fully equipped kitchen, storage, copy room and a fitting room.
Recruiting at Tuck (by Juliana)
Tuck has some exclusive characteristics that make the recruiting process a differential to its students:
Our Alumni are spread all over the world in the major Fortune 500 companies as well as in the entrepreneurial world. All major consulting firms consider Tuck a core school for recruiting. Some of them, such as McKinsey, Bain & Company and BCG have a campus representative to chat individually with students about job opportunities.
Below are some examples of the companies in which the Tuck Brazilian Alumni work in Brazil:
Our commitment as Tuck Alumni is to ensure that we constantly work to attract the best people to become part of our selected community. Tuck Alumni will never neglect to actively help those who have demonstrated leadership skills, commitment to ethics, teamwork spirit, and ambition to achieve the best and succeed in their professional lives.
Alumni Strength (by Andrea)
One of the greatest assets of being a Tuck student is being able to take advantage of the alumni network. Since classes are small at Tuck, the Tuck network is certainly not the largest one of the top MBA schools, but it is certainly the most active and the most accessible. Tuck alumni really take their time to share their experience and counsel with Tuck students. The best example is the way the alumni network has been helping out Tuck students in the midst of the financial turmoil the world is experiencing. They are coming back to Tuck to see what they can do to help and many T’02s, that went through a similar situation when they graduated, shared their experience with present Tuck students at a CDO sponsored event.
Which are the best classes at Tuck? (by Sergio)
Tuck offers a wide range of excellent classes and has many high-level courses. All of them are connected to the distinctive faculty quality. In the core curriculum, courses as Financial Measurement, Analysis and Report (Prof. Stocken), Managerial Economics, and Global Economics for Managers deserve a gold medal.
The wide range of electives enables in-depth and broad development possibilities. Leadership out of the Box is really amazing and wonderful class. Corporate Valuation, taught by Prof. Sundaram, is one of the highlights of the MBA program. Entrepreneurship and Entrepreneurship in Social Sector are also highly recommended courses. Strategic Brand Valuation, with Prof. Keller, who is replacing Prof. Kotler as the main guru for marketing in the business world, is another course that cannot be missed.
For those interested in Consulting: Advanced Competitive Strategy, Global Strategy and Implementation, and Implementing Strategy as well as Management Control Systems are top classes.
For those interested in Finance: Capital Markets, Corporate Finance, Corporate Restructuring, and Corporate Financial Management are ranked high.
For those pursuing General management positions: Organizational Culture & Change, Operations Strategy, Corporate Communication, and Service Marketing should be in your top list.
