You have the option to buy some books in India at a cheaper price. This is the list based on courses conducted in 07-08. However even if you are not able to find and buy these books, you can buy new or used books here also.

Note: The above is a individual opinion and not the opinion of the school.

Typically you don't get very good winter clothes in India. Hence, most people end up buying the important winter-ware from here itself. You can find stuff across various price ranges.

Shirts, trousers etc. can be very expensive in the US, unless you know how to find bargain sales. So you might want to bring a good stock of such stuff.

Getting suits from India might be a good idea. The price difference for stiched suits between US and India is substancial. A classic 2-button or 3-button suits are good choices for the recruitment process.

Career search is as much about introspection and self awareness as it is about external research to determine the opportunities. The Career Leader tool is a good exercise in this direction. Try to understand what various careers offer in terms of opportunities and lifestyle and also try to assess what your personal goals and objectives are.

Given that once you start the Fall term you would be bombarded with a ton of work and activities, the more work you do upfront the better. You should definitely work on the material sent in the material package. At least skim through it. The accounting book might be particularly useful.

If you are choosing to stay on-campus, you do not need a car during your first year. However, if you are staying more than a mile from the school, you might need a car.

The Financial Aid office is the best resource regarding financial aid. However, if you have any specific India-related questions, you can mail them to any of the chairs of the club.

In the year that you are joining Tuck, you would most probably be an alien in the US. This means that you would have to file for taxes in the country that you are a resident of (which in most of your cases would be India). However, you would also have to file for taxes in the US. Technically, subsequently, you need to file for taxes in only one country. However, it is a best practice to file a return in both US and India, even if you do not have non-taxable income or you are not a resident. This just helps you avoid hassles in the future.

When you come to Tuck, the international office provides you access to a software, at a very nominal fee, that helps you prepare your tax returns.

First try asking the International office. If any questions remain unanswered, mail the chairs of the club with specific questions and we would route the questions to the right people.

Within a few weeks of coming to Tuck, we would organize a Club Fair for the Class of 2010. Here, the chairs of the various clubs would give you an overview of the club activities. This would enable you to make a choice.

At Tuck you do not have to pay to be a member of most clubs (except the beer/wine/ whisky related clubs). Hence, you can always join a club and find out for yourself if you are interested in the activities of the club.

You should have a preliminary CV in the Tuck template prepared by the time you come to school. You would be surprised how quickly the career search takes off. In fact, you are required to submit your official CV just a couple of weeks into the fall term.

Course waivers are approved by the faculty after either pre-tests or discussions with the students about their background and experiences. Please refer to the welcome package for a comprehensive description of how the process runs.

Although you might have covered some topics during undergrad, it is often a good practice to retake the courses because the approach to teaching is different.

The Fall term is typically considered to be heavy in terms of its academic demands. The academic load drops off in Winter - however, recruiting efforts would keep you busy. In Spring the course load largely depends on the elective you take and how busy your First Year Project keeps you.
