Mr. Achtmeyer is co-founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Parthenon Group. Prior to founding Parthenon in 1991, Mr. Achtmeyer was a director of Bain & Company where he was responsible for the mergers and acquisitions practice and he led Bain's business development activity.

Bill obtained his AB degree from Princeton University and received his MBA from Tuck in 1981.

 

 

 

Christopher J. Alden  D'92                           Co-Founder and Vice Chairman           Red Herring Communications        

 

Mr. Alden is co-founder and Vice Chairman of Red Herring Communications, Inc.  Mr. Alden's San Francisco based company provides strategic news, analysis, and opinion on the business of technology.  Some of the company's successes include Red Herring magazine the leading international monthly magazine, Red Herring Online a web based daily news service, as well as several executive conferences including the Venture Market Series, Herring on Hollywood, Venture 99, and NDA 99.  Mr. Alden is a member of the Board of Directors of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce as well as a member of the Silicon Valley Social Ventures Steering Committee.

Chris obtained his BA degree in History from Dartmouth College in 1992.

Mr. Bello is the co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of South Beach Beverage Company.  Prior to founding this company, Mr. Bello held such positions as President of the National Football League Properties Inc., Vice President of Marketing for Arizona Beverages, Marketing and Strategic Planning at Pepsi Cola, as well as Product Management roles for Maxwell House, a division of General Foods Corp.

John obtained his BA degree in History from Tufts University and received his MBA from Tuck in 1974.

Mr. Cari is a member of the Firm's Executive Committee who provides general corporate, legislative, and regulatory counsel to Fortune 500 companies and financial services firms.  Mr. Cari was appointed by President Clinton in 1999 to serve as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars for a six year term.  He has served on the Board of Trustees since 1995 and as Vice Chairman of the Board since 1996.  Mr. Cari served as National Finance Chairman for the Democratic National Committee for the 2000 Election.  Mr. Cari currently serves on the Board of Directors of Basic Plastic Products and Success Banc Shares, Inc.  He also serves on the Board of the Chicago Urban League and on the Chicago Committee on the Chicago Council on Foreign Relations.

Joe obtained his BA from the University of Notre Dame with honors and received his law degree from the University of Notre Dame.

 


Susan J. Carter  President and CEO             Commonfund Capital/Endowment Advisors

 

Ms.  Carter serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Commonfund Capital, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Commonfund, overseeing its fifteen private capital programs in venture capital, domestic and international private equity and energy.  Prior to joining Commonfund, Ms. Carter served as a senior associate with Morgan Stanley & Co. from 1985-89, and spent several years at General Electric Investment Corp., where her duties included the evaluation of venture capital limited partnerships, as well as analysis for GE's Pension Trust's venture capital program.

Susan obtained her AB degree in Economics and Business from Lafayette College.

 

 

Collette Chilton  T'86                                    CIO, Pension Fund                                  Lucent Technologies Inc. 

 

Ms. Chilton is the Chief Investment Officer for Lucent Technologies Inc.  Ms. Chilton's role has been to design the investment strategy and implement the management of Lucent's pension assets, formerly under the control of the AT&T Investment Management Company.  Ms. Chilton has held such positions as Chief Investment Officer for the Massachusetts Pension Reserves Investment Management Board, a similar position with the Massachusetts State Teachers and Employees Retirement Systems Trust, and a position in investment banking with the First National Bank of Boston and Citicorp Investment Bank.

Collette obtained her BS degree in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley and received her MBA from Tuck in 1986.

 

 

Alicia M. Cooney  T'76                                  Partner, Managing Director                 Monument Group               

 

Ms. Cooney is co-founder and Managing Director of Monument Group, an independent registered broker-dealer providing alternative investment opportunities to institutional investors.  Previously, Ms. Cooney was a consultant at Cambridge Associates Inc., an investment banker at Bear, Stearns & Co., and a research analyst at Bache, Halsey, Stuart & Shields.

Alicia obtained her BA degree from Wellesley College and received her MBA from Tuck in 1976.

 

 

Liam S. Donohue  T'95                                  Partner                                                      DHM Arcadia Partners     

 

Mr. Donohue is co-founder of DHM Arcadia Partners, L.P., a private equity fund investing in the $100+ billion for-profit education and training industry.  Arcadia tracks developments and trends in the education and training industry looking for market discontinuities that create opportunities for investment.  Prior to co-founding DHM Arcadia Partners, Mr. Donohue was a principal of Foster Management Company.  He launched the opening of the first office in Budapest, Hungary for BoozAllen, and founded and ran an independent non-profit organization that coordinated the Central European Environmental Education Seminar.

Liam obtained his BS in Chemistry from Georgetown University and received his MBA from Tuck in 1995.

Mr. Flaws is Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Corning Incorporated and is a member of Corning's Board of Directors. Mr. Flaws has held a variety of positions at Corning since 1973, which include the following. In 1993, Mr. Flaws was elected Assistant Treasurer of Corning Incorporated and was responsible for the spin-off of Corning's health-care businesses in 1996. He was named Vice President and Controller in February 1997 and in May was elected Vice President of Finance and Treasurer of Corning Incorporated. Mr. Flaws was named Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer in January 1998 and Executive Vice President in 1999.

Mr. Foster is Founder and Managing Partner of the Foster Management Company, an investment advisor, incorporated in 1972.  Foster is Founder and Chairman of the Board of NovaCare, Inc., a former Board and Executive Committee member of Avon, Inc., and a Board member of Corning Incorporated.  He serves as a Trustee of the Hospital for Special Surgery, New York, NY and the Woodrow Wilson Center, Washington, DC.  He also serves on the Board of Overseers for The Amos Tuck School, the Harvard School of Public Health Dean's Council and he is a Board member of the New York International Festival of the Arts.

John obtained his BA degree from Williams College and received his MBA from Tuck in 1967.

Mr. Fritz is President of the Private Equity units at BancBoston, conducting business as BancBoston Capital and BancBoston Ventures.  These companies provide private equity for emerging as well as established firms located in North America, Europe, Asia and Latin America, with proceeds utilized for growth capital finance, management buyouts, and other recapitalizations.  Prior to his current position, Mr. Fritz worked at BancBoston's London branch as Commercial Banking Head and has held positions in the bank's various lending areas.

Rick obtained his BA degree from Middlebury College and received his MBA from Tuck in 1970.

Mr. Furneaux is General Partner of Kodiak Venture Partners L.P.   Prior to joining Kodiak Venture Partners L.P., Mr. Furneaux was President of Furneaux & Company of which he is co-founder.  Mr. Furneaux founded and held the position of Chief Executive Officer of Chrysalis Symbolic Design Inc., currently the market leader in formal verification for design of integrated circuits.  Mr. Furneaux spent a year as a Senior Partner and Head of Investment Banking and Syndicate at Cowen & Company and prior to this was a Partner at Bessemer Venture Partners.  Other positions held include investment banking at LF Rothschild, Unterberg, & Towbin, and the lead technology analyst and member of the portfolio team at Keystone Custodian Funds.

Mr. Hart is Founder and a Managing Partner of Technology Partners, an early stage venture capital firm.  Mr. Hart has held such positions as Senior Officer and Director of Cresap, McCormick and Paget Inc., management consultants, and held positions in Systems Marketing and Manufacturing Planning with IBM Corporation.

Bill obtained his BE from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and received his MBA from Tuck in 1967.

 

 

Jonathan C. King  T'83                                  Associate VP for Investments               Dartmouth College            

 

Mr. King serves as Associate Vice President for Investments at Dartmouth College.  Mr. King's previous positions at Dartmouth include Director of Investments and Associate Investment Officer. Prior to his roles at Dartmouth, Mr. King was an Investment Officer in the Private Placement Group at New England Mutual Life Insurance Company from 1983-1988, and served on the audit staff of Price Waterhouse in Hartford from 1977-1981.

Jon obtained his degree with a double major in Environmental Studies and Economics from Middlebury College and received his MBA from Tuck in 1983.

Mr. Maynard  is Managing Director at HarbourVest Partners. Prior to that, he was a Loan Officer in the National Division of Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company. Mr. Maynard serves on the Advisory Boards of several private equity partnerships. He serves on the Board of Directors of First Capital Corporation and was formerly on the Board of CIDCO, Inc., now a NASDAQ-listed company. Internationally, Mr. Maynard serves on the Board of Genesis Investment Management Limited, an emerging markets public equity manager.

Mr. McGuire is co-founder and General  Partner of Polaris Venture Partners.  Mr. McGuire currently holds a seat on the Board of  Directors of Akamai, CBS/StoreRunner.com, deCode Genetics, and Wrenchead.com.  In addition, he is a founder of Advanced Inhalation Research and Microchips.  Mr. McGuire is the first and only venture capitalist to be elected to the Boards of Directors at both the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council (the organization of Massachusetts biotech and pharmaceutical companies) and MassMedic (the organization of Massachusetts medical device manufacturers).

Terry obtained his BS in Physics and Economics from Hobart College, his MS in Engineering from Dartmouth College and received his MBA from the Harvard Business School.

Mr. McNamee is co-founder and General Partner of Integral Capital Partners since 1991.  Integral Capital Partners is a family of private investment partnerships that invest in the securities of expansion stage private and growth stage public companies in the information and life sciences industries. Prior to his current position, Mr. McNamee worked at T. Rowe Price Associates for nine years where he held various research and portfolio management positions.

Roger obtained his BA degree from Yale University and received his MBA from Tuck in 1982.

Mr. Morse is President of Morse & Company, a firm in the business of creating new companies.   Mr. Morse is currently Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Silicon Entertainment, Inc., a company he founded to develop and operate auto racing simulation entertainment centers.  Mr. Morse is a former Director and Chairman of Silicon Gaming, a company he founded to develop, manufacture, and distribute innovative gambling machines.  Other roles he has held include, Director and Chairman for Crystal Dynamics, President, Chief Executive Officer, and Founder of NTG Engineering, Founder of Amiga Computer Inc., and numerous general management and senior marketing positions.

Dave obtained his BS degree in Engineering from Tufts University and received his MBA from Tuck in 1967.

Mr. Myers is a General Partner of Mayfield Fund, a private venture capital partnership.  Prior to joining Mayfield, Mr. Myers worked for Hewlett-Packard for four years in several managerial positions.  Mr. Myers is founder and Chairman of the Entrepreneurs Foundation and a recipient of the American Spirit Award from the National Venture Capital Association.

Mr. O'Grady is a founder and has been Senior Managing Director of Granite since its formation in July 1998, and he has been an Investment Manager for the Adobe Ventures series of funds since their inception in 1994.  He previously served in various positions with Hambrecht & Quist's Venture Capital department since 1986, including Managing Director from 1994 - 1998, Principal from 1989 - 1994, and Assistant to the President from 1986 - 1989.  Standish currently serves on the Boards of 2Way, Managing Editor, PictureIQ, Tumbleweed Communications (NASDAQ: TMWD), and Virage (NASDAQ: VRGE).  Earlier in his career, he was a process engineer with Intel Corporation.

Standish obtained his BSE in Chemical Engineering from Princeton University and received his MBA from Tuck in 1986.

Ms. Oberg is President, Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Acusphere, Inc., a development stage drug delivery company.  Prior to founding Acusphere, Sherri was Chief Executive Officer of Neomorphics, Inc., a venture capitalist at Inco Venture Capital Management and then at Aegis Venture Funds.

Sherri obtained her BA degree from Dartmouth College and received her MBA from Tuck in 1986.

Mr. Patterson practices law at Graham & James LLP and has been a Partner at their San Francisco office since 1978.  The firm's Palo Alto office specializes in the legal issues associated with the formation and operation of high technology businesses and the establishment of international joint ventures.  Intellectual property protection and exploitation have become increasingly important aspects of the Palo Alto office's practice.  Prior to his law career, Mr. Patterson served in the U.S. Navy nuclear power program.  Mr. Patterson has worked closely with entrepreneurial companies for over 20 years and serves on the Boards of a number of public and privately held companies.

Bob obtained his BA degree in Physics from the University of California at Los Angeles, his  Law Degree from Stanford Law School, and received his Executive MBA in Stanford Graduate School of Business.

Mr. Raether is a General Partner of Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. in their New York City office.  Prior to joining this merchant banking firm in 1980, he was Vice President of Blyth Eastman Dillon & Company's Corporate Finance Department, Director of Financial Analysis for Texasgulf Corporation and a member of the Corporate Finance Department of Reynolds Securities.

Mr. Rauner is the Managing Principal of GTCR Golder Rauner, L.L.C., a $4 billion private equity and venture capital firm based in Chicago.  GTCR forms and finances companies in partnership with outstanding executives whose goal is to dominate their markets over time through strategic acquisitions and aggressive internal growth.  Prior to joining GTCR in 1981, Mr. Rauner worked in strategic consulting with Bain and Company and in econometric analysis with Data Resources, Inc.  Mr. Rauner is a Director of a number of public companies, including AnswerThink, Inc., Coinmach, Polymer Group and U. S. Aggregates. 

Bruce obtained his BA with Highest Distinction in Economics, summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from Dartmouth College in 1978 and received his MBA from Harvard Business School.

Mr. Ruderman has served as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Berkeley HeartLab since 1998.  Berkeley HeartLab is a profitable private advanced cardiovascular informatics company funded exclusively by angel investors.  Mr. Ruderman's previous positions include: President and Chief Executive Officer, as well as Chief Financial Officer of Genomyx (1994-1997), Founder, acting President, Chief Operations Officer and a Director of Physiometrix (1990-1994), Board Member, President, Chief Operations Officer and Chief Financial Officer of American Bionetics (1985-1990), Member of the Board and the first President and Chief Executive Officer of Mast Immunosystems (1981-1985) and various domestic and international corporate executive positions with Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Pfizer Diagnostics and Millipore (1972-1981).

Mr. Smith is a Managing Director of the Thomas H. Lee Partners, where is has been one of the partners responsible for investing the firm's equity funds since 1990. Among the boards he currently serves on are Eye Care Centers of America, Inc., Finlay Enterprises, Inc. and Rayovac Corporation. Prior to his current position, Mr. Smith worked as a corporate finance generalist in the Investment Banking Division of Merrill Lynch & Co. From 1978-1981, Mr. Smith worked as a lending officer with Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company.

Stephen J. Socolof  T'87                                Vice President, New Ventures             Lucent Technologies Inc.

 

 Mr. Socolof is a Vice President in the New Ventures Group of Lucent Technologies.  The New Ventures Group is comparable to an internal venture capital organization focused on creating and spinning out new ventures based on Bell Labs technologies.  Prior to joining Lucent Technologies three years ago, Mr. Socolof spent eight years with the management consulting firm Booz, Allen & Hamilton.  At Booz, Allen, he was one of the firm's leaders in helping clients improve their innovation and product development processes.

Steve obtained his BA degree in Economics and a BS degree in Mathematical Sciences from Stanford University and received his MBA from Tuck in 1987.

 

Russell W. Steenberg  T'83                         Man. Dir., Private Equity                       Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc. 

 

Mr. Steenberg is a Managing Director of the Merrill Lynch Company, and is responsible for the development and management of a worldwide Private Equity Fund of Funds Asset Management business.  Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, Mr. Steenberg was a Managing Director of Fenway Partners where he was one of four initial partners who established the firm.  Mr. Steenberg has held positions with AT&T Investment Management Company where he was managing Director of Corporate Finance (1983-95), Office of the Secretary Budget Examiner for the U.S. Treasury Department (1978-81), D.C. Department of Corrections Budget Analyst (1976-78).

Russell obtained his BA degree from St. Lawrence University, his MPA from the American University and received his MBA from Tuck in 1983.

Mr. Still is a Managing Partner of Norwest Venture Partners, a venture capital fund in Palo Alto, California.  Mr. Still is currently the Director of two public companies, including PeopleSoft, Inc., and Verio Inc., and several private companies, including Metapath Software International (London), ObjectStream, Inc., mPower.com, Software Technologies Corp., Embark.com, Corio, Website Pros, and Rates.Com.  Previously, Mr. Still was a General Partner with the Centennial Funds (1984-1989), and was with Ernst & Whinney (now Ernst & Young) in San Francisco.

George obtained his BS degree from Pennsylvania State University and received his MBA from Tuck in 1984.


John S. Taylor  T'79                                       Vice President of Research                  National Venture Capital Association

 

Mr. Taylor is Vice President of Research at the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) which is based in the Washington, DC area. He is responsible for developing and overseeing association data and research efforts. The key element in this effort is the creation of a research consortium which was announced in 1998 involving the NVCA, Venture Economics, and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. This team was created to ensure accurate, impartial, and practical data on the venture capital and private equity industries. He joined the NVCA in 1996.

Mr. Taylor's career began with Andersen Consulting in Washington, DC where he was a senior consultant advising small business clients. He has since held senior product manager and IT positions in both large and small organizations. At PRC Realty Systems, which launched the online residential real estate multiple listing industry nationwide, he helped develop a new generation of minicomputer and microcomputer products. 

John obtained his BS degree in Chemistry from Dickinson College and received his MBA from Tuck in 1979.

 

 

Richard H. Thompson                                     Chairman                                                  Thompson Clive & Partners Inc.

 

Mr. Thompson is co-founder and Managing Partner at Thompson Clive & Partners Ltd.  Prior to co-founding Thompson Clive, Mr. Thompson held the position of Chief Executive and Joint Managing Director of New Court & Partners (part of the Rothschild Group).  He was the director responsible for running the corporate strategy practice globally at P-E Consulting Group, and qualified as a chartered engineer with Sir Alexander Gibb & Partners.
 
Richard obtained his MA degree in Mechanical Sciences from Cambridge University.

Mr. Whittemore is an Advisory Director at Morgan Stanley & Co., Inc. and has been with the firm since 1958.  Mr. Whittemore has held various positions at Morgan Stanley including Partner in 1967, Managing Director in 1970 and Advisory Director in 1989.

Fred obtained his AB degree from Dartmouth College and received his MBA from Tuck in 1954.

 

 

Rosalie J. Wolf                                                Managing Director                                 Laurel Management Company LLC

 

Ms. Wolf joined Laurel Management Company as a Managing Director in January 2001, to establish and lead Laurel's private equity fund of funds business.  Previously she was the Treasurer and Chief Investment Officer of The Rockefeller Foundation, where she oversaw investment of the Foundation's $3.8 billion endowment. She earlier held positions in corporate finance and investments at Bankers Trust Company, where she co-headed private equity investments, at International Paper Company, where she served as Treasurer and Assistant Corporate Controller, and at DLJ, where she was a Principal at Sprout, DLJ's private equity arm. Ms. Wolf serves on the boards of TIAA-CREF, Airborne Express, and the Sanford C. Bernstein Fund Inc.

Rosalie obtained her AB degree in Mathematics and Economics from Wellesley College and her MA in Mathematics from Northwestern University.
