Working at the intersection of business and society
EDUCATION

Tuck students can work with faculty on case development, participate in self-designed independent studies, choose a first-year project with a social or environmental focus, and consult for NGOs internationally.

Here are a few examples:

  • In June '08, Jennifer Blazejewski T’09 was Tuck’s representative at the 3rd annual corporate social responsibility conference held in Shanghai, China at CEIBS (China Europe International Business School). Her presentation introduced a model of CSR using as an example Honest Tea, her former employer. According to the conference website, this is the largest student-organized CSR conference for future business leaders in the Asia-Pacific region. Her trip was co-sponsored by the Allwin Initiative and the Center for International Business. Click here to view slides of her trip.
  • In March '08, 4 T'09s traveled to Nicaragua for field research on their Green Mountain Coffee Roaster spring term First Year Project.
  • A T'08 and a T'07 wrote a case with Professor John Vogel about a LEED Certified mixed use building in Birmingham Alabama. The case was used in both the fall and winter term Real Estate courses.
  • A T'08 wrote a case that was used in the spring term elective Management of Disasters.
  • The case Starbucks and Global Exchange: A Socially Responsible Challenge, written by Professor Paul Argenti and Ali Stanley T’02, has been used in both a core course and a second-year elective.
  • As an independent study, T’06s Annie Reed and Shruti Sehra analyzed international health care delivery systems and developed a model for providing ongoing care to marginalized peoples in Chiapas, Mexico.
  • A team of T’07s developed a business plan for a Washington, D.C. based nonprofit that will manufacture and distribute clay water filters in rural Tanzania.
  • Professor John Vogel has supervised student consulting teams for a family foundation and an NGO in the Philippines.
  • Director Pat Palmiotto has lead student teams for international NGOS in Mexico and South Africa.
