Eric's teaching and research focuses on the impact of information technology on supply chain management and he has published recent articles on this subject in Sloan Management Review, CIO Magazine, and Supply Chain Management Review. His research on postponement strategies recently won the Accenture Award for outstanding paper. He is particularly interested in the supply chain challenges faced by industries with short product life cycles such as toys, apparel and computers. Before joining Tuck, he taught for eight years at the Owen Graduate School of Management, Vanderbilt University. He was previously employed by Hewlett-Packard Co. and Systems Modeling Corp. He has consulted for diverse companies such as Lucent, Mattel, Hewlett-Packard, Accenture, Pepsi, DHL, The Parthenon Group, Campbell-Hausfeld, Fleetguard, and Kulic & Soffa. Eric holds an MS in industrial engineering and operations research from Penn State University, and a PhD in industrial engineering from Stanford University.

Hans Brechbühl

Hans leads the center's outreach efforts. Before joining Tuck, he was group VP of corporate development for Metromedia International Telecommunications and an executive for a financial dotcom. At MITI, Hans led business development and strategy from 1998-2000, negotiating cable, telecoms, and internet deals. As managing director of the Davidson Institute from 1993-98, Hans co-directed a $3.5 million independent business education institute focused on emerging markets at the University of Michigan Business School. He built corporate partnerships with AT&T, Whirlpool, P&G, and other Fortune 500 companies and was responsible for establishing all aspects of the Institute's operations as a startup. In a previous life, Hans served as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Army where he led tactical units on the Iron Curtain in Europe for six years. He holds an AM from Harvard University and a BS in engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Hans is of Swiss heritage and speaks a number of European languages.

Scott Dynes

Scott's research interests span both the Information Security study and the Collaborative Knowledge Networks project. As a senior research fellow at Dartmouth's Institute for Security Technology Studies, he focused on the adoption of information security within organizations, specifically on market drivers, and what levels of information security are consistent with firm, extended enterprise, and a greater public good. He is currently working on the center's field study exploring these issues. Within the Collaborative Knowledge Networks project, his focus is on algorithmic and visualization techniques to identify and track the temporal evolution of small collaborative innovation networks (5-12 individuals) based on email and other logs of the technically-mediated flow of information and knowledge within organizations. He is also interested in the wider aspects of information flow within organizations, both from a social network and a content perspective. He earned his PhD at MIT for his experimental and modeling work on understanding the response of nerve fibers to electrical stimulation.

Ajit Appari

Ajit’s research, broadly speaking, focuses on risk measurement and risk management of information technology investments. Currently he is working on the center's research projects entitled "Information Risk in Data-Oriented Enterprises" and "Business Rationale for Cyber Security." He recently graduated from Syracuse University with a PhD in Business Administration (Management Information Systems). He also holds a Master of Technology in Quality, Reliability and Operation Research from Indian Statistical Institute, India. Before pursuing his PhD he worked with Honeywell Technology Solutions Laboratory at Bangalore, a subsidiary of Honeywell Inc. USA, as Principal Software Engineer. His industry expertise includes quality management system deployment and assessment, and application of statistical techniques for process and product quality improvement.

Xia Zhao

Xia's research interests span economic and organizational aspects of information systems and electronic commerce. She specializes in information security and risk management within and/or across organizations. Currently she is working on the center's research project entitled "Information Risk in Data-Oriented Enterprises." She acquired her PhD in information systems from the University of Texas at Austin, and her MS in control theory and control engineering and BS in automation from Tsinghua University.

Jennifer Childs
Program Manager

Jennifer develops, organizes, and manages educational programs and events for the center. She also develops and manages corporate relationships that support these programs, and contributes directly to the development and writing of grant and donor proposals related to the programs and their funding. Jennifer comes to the center with a background in marketing and public relations, including five years of experience in telecommunications. She has worked as a researcher for the Telecommunication Information Policy Institute, evaluating telecommunications infrastructure development on the Texas-Mexico border. She also has worked as an analyst evaluating 3G technology in the UK, and developed international marketing schemes for Vonova, an early leader in VoIP and VON. Jennifer holds a BS and MA from the University of Texas at Austin.

Genevieve Canceko Chan

Genevieve develops and manages the content for the center's marketing and communications efforts, including brochures, newsletters, and the web site. She also does background research and writing for center events, research projects, grant proposals, and other center initiatives. Genevieve brings to the center over eleven years of experience in academic publishing. Prior to coming to Tuck, she was a project editor for the American Bar Association. Genevieve holds an MFA from the University of Michigan and a BA from Stanford University.

Leslie Tait

Leslie joined the Center for Digital Strategies in October 2001 after more than a decade in private industry as an office and laboratory administrative professional. In addition to Leslie's administrative assistant duties at the center, she also provides academic support for the center team and affiliated faculty.

The center is led by director M. Eric Johnson and executive director Hans Brechbühl. They are supported by Jennifer Childs, program manager; Genevieve Chan, research and marketing manager; and Leslie Tait, center administrator.

Scott Dynes, Ajit Appari, and Xia Zhao are research fellows, and complete the core team.
