Organized and managed by the Center for International Business, the Tuck Global Consultancy is a program of international consulting services offered to the business community at an affordable fee.
How the Program Works
Tuck's superbly trained MBA candidates consistently rank highly among their peers at the world's best business schools. The crucial attributes they possess include the ability to drive results; to apply key skills in teamwork, analysis, problem-solving, and communications; and to maintain successful interpersonal relations. The results are evident in the work Tuck students produce in the Tuck Global Consultancy. Here's how the program works:
- Corporate clients assign overseas tasks to teams of Tuck MBA candidates.
- The teams, typically composed of six members (averaging 30 years in age, with five to seven, or more, years of work experience), prepare in the summer or early fall, then travel to their assigned countries in August/September or November/December.
- For three weeks, the teams work under the supervision of Team Advisors, who have extensive consulting backgrounds.
- At the end of this period, each group reports to clients, with executive summaries of findings and presentations to overseas-based management.
- The teams then return to the US to complete full reports and present to client management within four to six weeks.
The content of each assignment varies widely. However, the common denominators thus far have been:
- Tasks are largely external to the clients' in-country office operations.
- Tasks are focused and discrete and fieldwork can be completed within the allotted three weeks.
Costs
The cost of a project is $33,500 plus travel expenses; these expenses are based on Tuck's travel policy, which is structured to keep costs to an absolute minimum, consistent with safe and effective operations.
Travel Policy
The following are policy and procedures for student and faculty travel in connection with the Tuck Global Consultancy program. All expenses are billed at cost to clients' accounts unless otherwise stated. Tuck undertakes to provide maximum possible documentation and backup receipts.
- Students and junior Team Advisors travel at economy class fares that are available and consistent with both safety and tight schedules.
- Senior Team Advisors travel business-class. Often, these Advisors supervise several projects in a region. Thus, the costs of their fares and lodging are pro-rated among several clients.
- Teams stay in good, moderately-priced business hotels, chosen to meet the rates approved under the US State Department per diem requirements for the city of assignment; student rooms are single occupancy. As needed, we look to client local offices for recommendations and, if appropriate, assistance on hotel selection and reservations.
- Student meals and incidentals are a fraction of those per diems governed by the US State Department.
- Local phone calls are considered business expenses; international calls, unless made to the client company or at its behest, are personal.
- Clients are billed for other relevant costs, such as visas, if required.
