Gabriel Jaramillo, the CEO of Sovereign Bank, kicked off the CIB's International Arena Speakers Series in September 2010.

The CIB welcomed three guest speakers during the fall term to share their expertise and their experiences with the Tuck community. The links embedded below provide more information. 

September 2010: Gabriel Jaramillo (pictured above) spoke about his experiences as the new CEO of Sovereign Bank after it was acquired by Santander of Spain. CIB Fellow Thiago Teodoro T'11 interviewed Mr. Jaramillo for the CIB podcast series.  



October 2010: Shoei Utsuda, the Chairman of Mitsui & Co., Ltd., described the history of and the important role of trading companies in Japan's economy, and he explained the emerging work ethic of Yoi Shigoto.



November 2010: David Marchick, the Managing Director and Global Head of External Affairs at The Carlyle Group, offered his thoughts on the future global prospects for the private equity industry. CIB Fellow Ambrose Usih T'11 interviewed Mr. Marchick in this video.

Podcast: Becoming Globally Focused

CIB Executive Director Lisa Miller interviewed Dinesh Paliwal (pictured right), the President, Chairman, and CEO of Harman International. Mr. Paliwal has vast experience working in many different countries, and he offered his thoughts on how he has transformed Harman into a global corporation and the lessons he's learned along the way.




Video: Global Marketing is Extreme Marketing

    Professor Peter Golder explains the relevance of approaching marketing from a global perspective, and he talks about his experiences conducting research in China.

Video: Culture and Consumer Decisions

  Professor Praveen Kopalle explains why international experience is no longer value-added for today's executives; it's expected. He also describes his research into how cultural differences impact consumer decisions, especially between consumers in India compared with consumers in the U.S.

Video: Private Equity in China

  CIB Fellow Kevin Su T'11interviewed Jiyuan Sun, the Managing Director of Government and Regulatory Affairs in China at The Carlyle Group, and the two talked about how the private equity industry is being established in China, the challenges faced, and the opportunities ahead.

Spring Break Learning Expeditions: China and India

Two trips, one to India led by Professor Praveen Kopalle and one to China with Professor Peter Golder, will depart Hanover in March 2011 for spring break. Faculty-led Learning Expeditions organized by the CIB offer students the chance to experience different cultures and business environments first hand. Participants gain valuable experience while talking to and networking with alumni and business executives in the host countries. 

The participants on the 2011 trips will provide updates about their travels in the Spring 2011 eNewsletter.

CIB MBA Fellows

CIB Fellows have been busy during fall term on two projects. One project is a case writing exercise focused on Mitsui & Co. The second project involves research of new product innovation for low-income consumers in Brazil, China, and Nigeria. Updates on their work will be featured in the Spring 2011 CIB eNewsletter.
